Quick Thoughts About Harry Potter

Where the hell is the rest of the world in this war? If Voldemort is OH SO POWERFUL AND NASTY AND EVIL, then why does it appear to be only Britain fighting? I'm thinking this is more of a civil war of sorts. Or an invading-people thing. At the risk of making horrible analogies (and I'm sure certain people will point them out if I do), Voldemort* = English and Dumbledore* = Native Americans. I don't know enough about histories of other countries to add them to the analogy, but yeah.

Or have I completely blocked out portions of the books?

We all know the shoe-size myth. Do you think the Wizarding World has a wand-size myth?

larger wands are like helmets for retards, or large-print books for near-blind people

It could always be the voldermort, seeing as he is in britain, is the bigges tthreat there. Also, we have no clue how big resistances were in the past. They never really mentioned much other than one group in britain. As far as we knew, half the world could have been trying to stop him. And people have only just begun admitting he's around at the end of the 5th book anyway.
hehe...my computer can make the £ symbol. Appropriate now that i'm talking about briattain. Of course, me bragging about that probably means it doesn't show up in most live journals.

It showed up in mine!

And, yeah, good point. It's kind of unfair that we only get to see what's happening from Harry's perspective. I mean, it makes for a great children's book, cuz what kid is gonna think about stuff like that? But it would be so much more interesting if JKR delved into all of the things that Harry wasn't a part of...

A companion series would be cool. Like, an adult version that was more of a 3rd-person omniscient narrative. :-)

[identity profile] techiemikey.livejournal.com 2005-03-27 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
That would definately be awsome seeing other perspectives. It's worked before (ender's game and ender's shadow (if you havn't read them, read them, they are worth it(ender's game is first(wow, i really worked my way in here)))). Of course, if there was an adult version, do you realize how many people would demand slash?

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2005-03-27 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the Ender stuff is what sorta gave me the idea. Or, at least, gave me the idea and let me think it was plausible.

And that was an impressive level of paranthetical-ness you had going there. ;-)

And I would so demand slash! OMG REMUS+SIRIUS = TWU WUV 4EVA!!!!!!!11!1!!111!!!eleventyone!!!2.71828183!!!!!!

*ahem* Back to your regularly scheduled Erin...

Hey, they've got France and Bulgaria involved a wee bit from book 4, right?

Uh oh, France...clearly the 'good' side is going to lose. :P

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2005-03-27 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
See, I think that was sketchy involvement... I think that was something like, "Heyyyyy, come do this Huge Big Quidditch Thing here " more than... knowlingly participating? Or something to that effect?

Oh gods, the good side is screwed. :-P

[identity profile] caecilia.livejournal.com 2005-03-27 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
hahahahaha.

w00t :P

not necessarily, since without the aid of the french, americans may not have been able to win the revolutionary war.

If France is on the good side, good cannot triumph!
