Writing Meme

Ganked this from [livejournal.com profile] scarletdemon. Like her, I'm not really tagging anyone cuz I'm not sure who would want to/be able to fill this out. Or whatever.

1) Where do you write?
My various journals: Wherever I can find a computer. At the moment, it tends to be either at my desk or in my bed. Last year it was at my desk, in the Campus Center, or down in the library. I'm nowhere near as picky about that as I am about actual writing.
Stories/Novels/The Like: Ahahaha. I am so picky about this. I have to be one of three places: in bed, in class, or in some sort of eatery. I can write fine in the middle of Panera or Starbucks during their busiest hours. Lying down with a pad of paper or laptop in front of me? No problem! Half taking notes, half working on a story? Nothing better! Ask me to sit in front of my desk at my computer and write you someting? Never going to happen.

2) Do you use/have a laptop? Why golly gee yes I do! For everything! In fact, I'm using it right now!

3) What distracts you from writing? Oh gods, everything and anything. [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge has a series of "I should be wri-- OO SHINY!" icons because, well, it's true. Everyone I've ever talked to about writing says that they get distracted by the most minor and oddest stuff when they're trying to write. As Jimmy Breslin said, "That's the horrible thing starting out, you get distracted a lot because anything is easier than writing. It's just the same enemy - blank paper."

4) What makes you write even more? Feedback? Actual ideas? Being around people who are also writing? A wee smidgen of alcohol?

5) What do you have set up for yourself so that you can write even more? Not a whole lot. The first three I have no control over. The last one depends on what sort of a mood mum is in and what we have in the house. So I just tough it out.

6) What do you do when you're stuck? Quit. I just give up for a while then come back to it later. Or I move on to a later bit and then come back and connect the two. Or even to a different project.

7) Do you write from beginning to end... or do you jump around as the mood suits you? I prefer going from beginning to end, but sometimes you just have to jump around like a frog on crack.

8) When do you write? Whenever I feel like it. So long as I have a slice of paper or a computer in front of me, that is.

9) If you're a novel-writer of any sort... how do you set up your story, or do you? I lay out a vague outline, nothing more than major events and themes. I'll fill out a character sheet for the main character(s), since I'm horrible at remembering details. And that's really about it. I just jump in.

10) How do you stay motivated to write... to keep going, even if you've been rejected time and time again? I enjoy it. Even when I'm freaking out and hating everything I come up with, I still enjoy it (or, at least, I still remember that I enjoy some of it). I figure if I'm damned persistent, someone will publish me. And even if that fails, there's always the internet! Someone at Fiction Press is sure to love it.
