Mmmmm Milk!

It has been very very hot here, so I have been not posting in any of my journals, preferring to lie around moaning about how hot it is. I managed to give myself heatstroke (I ASSUME) by taking a nap. Stupid sun, stupid puking, stupid everything.

NOT STUPID:

Today is the first day that I get to pick up my goat milk! On the one hand, it's an hour away now. On the other hand, milk I can actually use! I'm going to leave in a little bit, since I'm not sure what time the milking gets done and I don't want to get there too early.

Man, I'm going to make cheese and ice cream and tons of stuff. :D :D :D

I can never drink goat's milk now I know what the goats do in the bucket. It's very sad.

Oooooh. Fresh goat milk. :D Have you made cheese before?

No! But as soon as my storebought cream cheese runs out I'm making cream cheese. :D :D :D

THAT IS SO COOL. I've made paneer cubes for a palak paneer recipe, and that wasn't too hard, but that's probably the world's simplest possible cheese to make. How is cream cheese made? Do you make the milk curdle and separate the curds from the whey at some point? IDK if all cheese has that as a step or not.

YYYY. You put a mass of milk curdled with, um. I forget which bacteria. But you put the mass of curds in a cheesecloth bag and just let all the whey drip out.

I AM SO JEALOUS. Not necessarily about the milk itself, I'd just like to be able to go see some goats every now and then. Goats are cute!
