I've been keeping this on the down low in case it didn't work out. Y'all know how I operate.
At the moment, there is a very large cage sitting under the window between my bed and desk. A large cage with a water bottle and a couple ramps and landings and a food bowl and a nesting box and a hammock and a nice layer of aspen on the bottom.
All it's missing is an animal.
I'm getting rats.
Y'all done going "Ew! Gross!!" yet? Good.
I went up to the MSPCA in Methuen on Saturday. I held and played with a bunch of rats, and then managed to dig up a pair who were sleeping under a rug.
They're a delightful mix between socialized and unsocialized. Once I got them calmed down, I started skritching their ears and the friendlier of the two started bruxing and just being a happy little rat.
Most of the other rats there were adults. I was told that the two I had were three months old, but they were maybe half the size of a pair that was four months old. So I don't know.
In any case, they're as friendly as is to be expected. I already love them to pieces. And tomorrow, I'm going to pick them up.
