Pffffft, that truly it puny. My marine biology prof had footage of this ...thing... that had passed under some lights on an underwater rover. By estimation each appendage was large enough to bring down a whale. [Will tell you later which institute he's with in case we can hunt down some of his footage]

I thought the same thing. I don't know how big normal squid run, but 12 ft long doesn't seem all that extraordinary to me.
