Winter

We are finally maybe getting snow tomorrow and Thursday, yay!

More importantly, dry skin season has finally hit. D: I swear, I almost started crying when I stepped into the shower tonight because it hurt so badly.

But now I am all lathered up in lotion and semi-better! So, does anyone have any home-remedy-type stuff for dry skin that works better than lotion?

Original ultra-thick Nivea, and vegetable oil for your elbows and the really scruffy bits.

I swear, I am a goddamn lizard right now.

SRSLY. It's only certain portions of my body that do the uber-dry thing, but the ones that do make sandpaper look soft D: Which is horrid because during the rest of the year, those parts are the softest parts.

I totally took vegetable oil into the shower with me to put on, because I was all "Oh, well, it's going to be bad, but not too bad, and veggie oil will moisturize it right up!"

AND THEN I DIED. D: D: D:

The thought of you all lathered up in lotion gave me a tingly feeling down under. ;)

But I bet the scaly lizard skin underneath the lotion wouldn't. ;-)

I made my parents bring me an humidifier immediately one year, because I thought the shower was bad, I eeked my way back to my room, put on lotion, then simply lay in bed, whimpering, unclothed, as my whole body burned. The humidifier helped loads; college rooms are small enough and closed off enough that you can moisturize them pretty fully.

With work, and all the dishwashing I have to do, my hands are the only part of me that's like that now. I keep working on them, though, and enough breaks from work help. Also, the other day I bought a fancy new lotion - well, CVS-style fancy - Jergens with Shea Butter. It's super thick and moisturizing. I think, technically, the best thing you could do is apply lotion while you're still slightly damp, and make it a gross lotion - like Vaseline. Ick.

Hmmm that's not a half-bad idea. I'll have to see where I can get a cheap one/if I can get a cheap one. Because this whole "sucking it up" thing SUCKS. :-P

Udder Cream!!!!! I swear by it and I hate greasy and stinky stuff. I'd send you some but I doubt it would make it intact to you. I also agree with the humidifier. I run ours every few nights. OH, and remind me to tell you about how it was my only heater when I stayed at that place where they didn't believe in heaters AND kept the windows open in the dead of winter AND part of the cieling fell on me >.>

OH OH OH, and also? lanonin is wonderful for it. Therefore I prescribe WAY more wool knitting.

OH MAN I FORGOT ABOUT UDDER CREAM!!!

We had a giant tub of udder cream for our hands and stuff and bag balm for chapped lips/noses/etc. at home. I have no clue where we got it, though, MUST GO SEARCHING!

Drinking more water will help, but also adding some Flax Seed Oil to your diet will help. You can also rub the flax seed oil on your person. When I get really dry and itchy/scratchy/painpainpain I have found that using my son's Balmex really helps, too. Or Aquafor. That's some good stuff!

I take that back. What I meant to say was:

Sleet!
