Boston Roads. >:(

This is the kind of shit I have to drive through on a daily basis, you guys.

Okay, that one's not so bad. Just lots of slightly bendy streets on an angle and all.

I fucking hate this intersection. It's makes Kelly Square in Worcester look like a walk in the park.

OH DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN WHAT THE HELL IS THAT. I drive through that twice every single day. Christ it's enough to make me want to kill myself, seeing it laid out like that.

WTFFFFFF BOSTON.

I think I saw a hentai that looked like that bottom picture.

Boston's a party!

What's your route? There might be a better one...

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It's actually not that bad at all. The spaghetti one is the portion where there's, like, 3 different highway-type-things above-ground, plus the Ted William's tunnel.

I take take 93S and then 95N. It's a nice loop!

o.O

I'm just trying to fathom the way that all works out. Seeing that all laid out makes me appreciative of the mess that is 40 here in St Louis, and even of the smorgasbord of highways lying across the river. I have enough problems driving in Chicago; I don't think I could ever manage Boston.

You're gonna love driving here XD

Boston predates responsible city planning for motorcars and other horseless carriages. It worked great when everything was an ox-cart, for what it's worth.

The alt-text becomes important here. (http://xkcd.com/c253.html)

Indeed! That's where I got the links from.

Well, Montreal is comparatively aged and yet it's streets are set up mostly on a grid (though I've never seen the outskirts). I don't know whether the French colonists were more forward-looking or whether the city owes its navigability to eminent domain laws.

Is the last one the result of the Big Dig?

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
MAYBE.

Actually, I was wondering that yesterday, and meant to google it, and never did.

BUT THE ANSWER IS YES.

I'd get lost in 2 minutes flat. I never thought I'd say this, but thank god for the subway!

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2007-04-27 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was fun trying to navigate it for the first time ever. BUT NOW I AM A PRO!!

That bottom one looks like someone dropped a whole bunch of spaghetti on the plans and then decided it would work quite well as a road, now they came to think of it. It's insanity!
