In Which Our Hero- Oh wtfever man
I'm reading my "calm the fuck down" book. Which, contrary to what the quote at the beginning of this entry would you have think, is The Stand. I mean, what is more relaxing than a book about a superflu pandemic destroy 99.4% of the world's population?
Nothing. That is what.
I've finally found an audiobook version of the longest uncut/unabridged/unwhatever version so I can listen while I'm working. I remember being so proud when I finished reading my physical copy for the first time, because it was something like 1500 pages. That's long man.
I'm falling in love with Nick all over again, even though my brain is screaming in big ol' red letters. wtfever maybe this time the ending will be different.
Shut up.
It could happen.

I remember really enjoying that book when I read it - most of it. I loved the detail of the build-up; my favourite part of any apocalyptic story is the why-, how-, and wherefores of how it came to be, and this book delivers in spades. I can't remember who Nick is, unfortunately (I must have read the book, oh, fourteen or fifteen years ago now?) but there's a bit in the lead-up with the woman whose family dies that I remember fairly vividly. Good writing.

Nick's the deaf-mute that's one of the main characters for a large portion of the book until, um, he isn't anymore. Yes. That is how we'll phrase it. If you've seen the older miniseries, he's the one played by Rob Lowe.
You're probably thinking of Frannie and her family. 'Cause that's the group of deaths that stuck with me the most. :D Part of it, I think, is the thought of her taking the time to bury her father. I mean, I dunno. I'M REAL BAD AT TALKING ABOUT BOOKS I LOVE, MAN.

I must have been Frannie, with the father? I just looked at the wiki entry and can't be 100% sure. I remember she put her family in the basement, I think, then buried them? And in some ways it was a relief? But that doesn't seem to match up. Hmm.
I'm surprised to learn there's an "expanded and uncut" version that moves the dates forward; have you read that one, or just the original? I can't imagine re-reading anything but the original, but I'm a snob. Not that I think I could - I remember it scaring the living shit out of me.

Shit man, I know which scene you're remembering, and I could've sworn it was Fran. asdjfkl;asdf this is going to drive me insane until I hit it or remember it.
There's a few expanded and uncut versions. I'd completely forgot about the one that moved the dates up, so I guess I'm not listening to the longest version here. :P I've read it - I've read all of the different versions, just 'cause that's what I do with certain books and with King I tend to like the versions more and more as they get longer and longer - but it was my least favorite. So I guess I blocked it out. I do remember that the editing sucked. There'd be things like black & white TVs and prices that made perfect sense for the original dates, but were so very very WTAF with the new dates.
