Weighing in in the Laziest Way Possible

Right so if you've not heard about the whole Department of Health and Human Services wanting to define women's contraceptives (aka, not condoms) as abortion, well, now you're hearing about it.

Mostly, instead of actually making a post about this, because seriously I am so fucking angry I can't even put it into words, I'm going to link to [livejournal.com profile] naamah_darling's post.

She has links to things.

Thanks for the link to that awesome rant and all of those links. I've been ranting about this to my mother all afternoon. She just looked at me suspiciously and asked since when do I need to be concerned about my right to contraceptives.

SINCE I WAS BORN WITH OVARIES, THANK YOU VERY FUCKING MUCH! *headdesk*

The U.S. is made of FAIL many a timesometimes, y/y?

OH MY GOD WHY IS YOUR MOTHER?

[identity profile] bofoddity.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much for the link. This entire deal makes me physically ill because HOW IN THE EVER LIVING FUCK CAN THEY EVEN THINK OF IT? Except I have my answer in that link.

Fail. Just fail.

Did you read the part about Mississippi? Did you read the part about Mississippi??

[identity profile] bofoddity.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The Mississippi part really broke me. It's actually legal to let somebody DIE because they happen to THEIR conscience. How.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly started crying at that point because what the actual fuck. WHO ARE THEY TO DECIDE WHICH LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT. There had better be some sort of cosmic judgment for that. >:O

[identity profile] bofoddity.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I would love to think that no health care provider would actually support that kind of twisted shit because, I dunno, they actually want to help people? That they're willing to protect any life? It's something that people are supposed to be able to count on, goddamn it! If there's a cosmic judgment, I hope it shows no mercy.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahahahahahaha :((((((((((((

That's not even true when it comes to matters that don't involve (potentially) fertilized eggs. http://fathealth.wordpress.com/

[identity profile] bofoddity.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. The asshole of humanity definitely needs some wiping.

[identity profile] carlanime.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
They're what now?

[identity profile] darth-cabal.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It's all part of trying to find a loophole to allow pharmacies/doctors/etc to refuse to dispense contraceptives.

And if you're wondering where the nearest store that sells both bats and nails is, you're not alone.

[identity profile] carlanime.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
WHAT? Why would pharmacies not want to sell contraceptives? *confused face*
...You live in Opposite World, don't you?

[identity profile] dinpik.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Because selling contraceptives is immoral and against the pharamcist's religion. Also, it makes women into sluts.

I'm not joking. That's how these people think.

What makes me sigh in resignation is that folks -- mostly feminist bloggers and people who post about Dominionism in the US -- have been pointing this whole situation out as a real threat for the last few years, and they've been ignored.

[identity profile] carlanime.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
But--with all due respect to pharmacists--why does anyone give a damn about their religion in the context of their job? They aren't being paid to moralize; can't their licencing body tell them to leave it at home or resign?

I mean, Christ, that's like my fundie mailman being allowed to decide not to deliver packages he disapproves of.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry you're trying to apply logic to something America is doing. :(

[identity profile] dinpik.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Because if they can't inflict their religious beliefs on others in the context of their job, their religious beliefs are being infringed upon.

They want to control women. That's the long and short of it. But I seem to recall a post on Shakesville about a pharmacist refusing to fill an order for psychoactive drugs. I'm waiting for someone to refuse to fill out a prescription for Viagra. That will make Fox News.

And I wouldn't be surprised if a fundie mailman refused to deliver something "blasphemous" or some such here, at this poing.

[identity profile] darth-cabal.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
LOL N00B to Walmart, the store that suffers no moral qualms over exploiting workers at home and abroad, but refused to stock contraceptives like Plan B on moral grounds.

[identity profile] carlanime.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
WHAT?

I can't tell anymore if this is just a bad case of Nightshift Head, or if I've been living under a rock, or if you guys are just making up creepier and crepier stuff to freak me out. o.O
