The idea was hatched after reading message board after message board where guys were like, “If I do this, is it rape? If I do that?”, basically seeking affirmation that some amount of coercion is acceptable within limits. Their idea was, basically, coercion is *part* of sex, because women’s role is gatekeeper and men’s role is to try to wear down a woman’s role. This idea is why people can’t tell the difference between rape and sex, because we use “consent” (whether arrived at through enthusiasm or through merely giving into heavy pressure converging on force) as the model of when sex should happen, not “enthusiasm”.

PROTIP: PEOPLE CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RAPE AND SEX. I CAN NOT EVEN BELIEVE THAT THAT SENTENCE CAME OUT OF SOMEONE'S MOUTH. IT'S NOT AS THOUGH WHETHER OR NOT YOU HAVE CONSENT IS SOME HUGE FUCKING MYSTERY YOU STUPID SACK OF SHIT.

INORITE??? IT'S LIKE, EVERY TIME I STOPPED BEING ANGRY BECAUSE SOMEONE SAID SOMETHING INTELLIGENT, THE NEXT COMMENT WOULD BE LIKE "LOL UR PERSECUTIN' ME". >:O

And then I was reading the comments to the post on io9 I linked the other day, and got like, wow-maybe-I-do-have-anger-management-issues angry at this one guy, Jeff-Minor, because even in the face of people telling him "lol no" and giving him statistics proving they were right, he kept insisting that, as a rule, wimmenfolk don't like sci-fi and little girls prefer to play with baby dolls instead of legos and action figures and shit.

And he kept going "I'm sorry you're trying to disagree with facts :(" and people kept going "Then link motherfucking links to back up what you're saying you dumb shit. YOU KNOW, LIKE WE DID." and he'd be like "lol so you can just ignore the facts some more y./y?"

And then I exploded with rage.
