New Avengers

[livejournal.com profile] shadowkitty is making me read New Avengers because she hates me and wants me to suffer. And I just... You guys, I can not understand how anyone would like Cap. Every scene he's in I want to punch him in the face and tell him to shut the fuck up.

I have to say, having Spidey smack him down will never stop being hilarious.

Save for all the scenes involving Cap, this series is so fucking awesome. Everyone's lulzy and everything's lulzy and &JESSICA DREW; GO YOU AND YOUR TRIPLE AGENTING.

But seriously, I find myself looking forward to Civil War -- and we all know how I feel about Civil War, right? -- because it means no more Cap.

why doesn't anyone ever get sick of his self-righteousness and punch him in the face, internet? :(

[identity profile] azarias.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Because he's wonderful and sincere, you commie.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
asdjfk;jsajd;kjs;dlfjsd;lf he's a DOUCHEBAG. I HAVE NEVER HATED A COMIC BOOK CHARACTER AS MUCH AS I HAVE HATED HIM SINCE SUPERMAN.

I just want to punch him in his smug face. Just once. With brass knuckles. And super-strength. And maybe a rocket-launcher-powered fist.

[identity profile] azarias.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry you hate America and apple pie :(

(Apple pie hates you, so I guess that one's only fair. Apple pie hates us all.)

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
>:( Apple pie is delicious and loves me.

LOL I started with Ultimates and not only is it totally cracked out, but every single character except Thor and Tony are assholes and this is how I now see all of hte characters. I'm backreading a bit and I'm like, wait, am I supposed to like these people?

[identity profile] azarias.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I get that feeling every time I see Mark Millar's name.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
WHAT

TONY IS A TOTAL ASSHOLE IN THE ULTIMATES

ARE YOU BLIND????

Ultimate X-men and Ultimate Daredevil & ELektra are amazing though.

It is entirely possible. I tend to do these sort of things wrong. If fandom loves an episode, I generally hate it.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously though, have you read any of the other series? ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN IS PRETTY AMAZING TOO.

[personal profile] cyprinella 2008-12-30 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, I was talking about this, not the individual Ultimate titles. I picked up one of the Spidermans when they first did the reboot back in the day (I think it was a freebie on Free Comic Book Day?) I can't take teenie Spiderman seriously.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
sry2say teenie SPiderman is meant to be lol'd at!

Meh, not my thing. I used to have the biggest crush on Peter Parker, too.

I AM JUST BAD AT SUPERHERO COMICS. :( MY COLLECTION IS ALL SANDMAN AND STRANGERS IN PARADISE AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
IT'S OKAY, WE ALL HAVE TO BE WRONG SOMETIME.

Hey, does the art in Sandman get better after the first volume? I've never been able to get past the ~style~ enough to finish reading the series.

[personal profile] cyprinella 2008-12-30 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, although it is a real mishmash of styles at times. It doesn't help that the early stuff is all the old four-color format and the intended colors didn't always show up the way they were supposed to. That's why the recent reissue in the giant book of great expense is so cool - they went and recolored everything and it makes a huge difference. The most gorgeous art is the last volume - The Wake - which is actually how I got hooked because I'm a huge art whore. There's this one Hellblazer collection that I have that the story is so good, but the art is so horrible that I rarely reread it.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh Hellblazer. :D: It is like the Canadian TV show of comic books. A+ plot, F- production value.

[identity profile] maybemabel.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
YYYY, it absolutely gets better. Actually, the first volume is probably the worst both artwise and writingwise. You could just skip it if you wanted.

[identity profile] rapunzelita.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I have only ever read 1602 as far as superhero comics are concerned AND I HAVE NO SHAME.

(No, wait, I read Runaways, too.)

But, hum. Yes. Captain America does look extra-punchable (he is in the few panels we see him in Runaways anyway)

[identity profile] maybemabel.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
He's not self-righteous, he's just plain righteous! >:(

[identity profile] maybemabel.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You just don't get him. :(

You'd understand if you read his series.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I get that he's a self-righteous twat, what else do I need!

[identity profile] maybemabel.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
To realize that you're wrong wrong wrong. >:(

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
sry2say nothing I've read has convinced me of that :(

[identity profile] maybemabel.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, have you read anything with him in it besides New Avengers? You can't base your opinion of a comic character on one writer's view of him!

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
New Avengers, a handful of Iron Man stories, The Ultimates, Marvel Adventures, and a handful of The Avengers stories.

sry2say, the more I read of him the more I find him a despicable person who needs a good punch in the face.

[identity profile] maybemabel.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Well, I guess that's fair, then. :( Even though you're still wrong on the internet

Did you like Marvel Adventures, though? IL that series.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You're the one who's wrong on the internet, madam. He wouldn't be half so hateable if he weren't just so goddamn boring. Nobody likes characters who are right all the time and perfect. He's like a lame Gary Stu.

I fucking love Marvel Adventures and anyone who doesn't is a sociopath.

[identity profile] maybemabel.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I fucking love Marvel Adventures and anyone who doesn't is a sociopath.

This is trufax technology 100%. I seriously think Marvel Adventures: the Avengers may be one of the best series Marvel is putting out right now. I liked the one where they were at the fair, and the Hulk won a prize! Actually, I think the Hulk is probably my favorite character in that universe.

[identity profile] shadowkitty.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadfax: the sucking is to do with the character. no one can fix it.

[identity profile] shadowkitty.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
NO U

[identity profile] maybemabel.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
P.S. What do you think of Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones? :D? :D?

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I love them about as much as I hate Cap!

[identity profile] cidercupcakes.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
IAWTC. He's like Buffy that way. I also think that most writers kind of don't know what to do with him, which is fair, because there are only so many storylines you can run with an invulnerable dude.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL RONG ON THE INTERNET

[identity profile] maybemabel.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
We should rumble with Shadowkitty and Wanlorn over his honor, y/y?

[identity profile] shadowkitty.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Cap sucks hardcore!

[identity profile] shadowkitty.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG why can't he leave people alone? He keeps >:(ing at them to become better people but they're fine! They don't need to conform to his ~*~standards~*~

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
But can't you see he just wants them to ~improve themselves~ even if they're perfectly happy as they are!

[identity profile] shadowkitty.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It always makes me think of when Cable is trying to 'improve' Deadpool, but just does not get that it doesn't count unless he does it himself.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
inorite? At least Cable had his sociopathness to round him out.

[identity profile] kayay.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Just to offset all the Cap hate I just want to say...

I've always loved Spidey.

Also I disagree that you're a Commie. You're obviously a a Satanist (http://redstick.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/churchlady.jpg).

In seriousness, however, I guess these new story arcs and series, i.e. like Civil War, are suppose to be the edgier, darker, more "real" Marvel? I dunno. I haven't read Marvel in a while.

[identity profile] the-wanlorn.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I looooooooooooooooooooooooove Spidey so freaking much.
