Why is this so HARD

God designing knitwear is so freaking hard?? Like I know exactly what I want in my head and it's gorgeous. But the math... the math!!

I can't rip this back again because the qiviut won't handle it. It's a wee bit snug but that'll be fine. Only I'm trying to figure out how big the thumb gusset needs to be and utterly failing. Why is there no obvious and easy to find website or book that tells you "make a thumb gusset X inches by X inches" so I can convert that to rows and stitches?

Hell, I'd even accept a number of rows/stitches and a gauge that I could convert to inches and then match my gauge with this lace-weight yarn. (Which is why I need it in inches. No one makes laceweight colorowork mittens that are on size 0s. God.

The beginnings of a mitten with white 1x1 ribbing and a colorwork pattern in purple. The pattern is a bunch of 6 row diamonds? I think? I don't know how to describe it. The thumb gusset has reversed color dominance and is outlined in a line of purple and a line of white. It's all on two flexiflip needles.

The only semi-clever thing I'm doing is flipping color dominance on the thumb. I don't know if I like that yet. The yarn is a purple qiviut blend, leftover from socks I made, and a white arctic fox blend that was a million dollars but totally worth it to make themed knittens.
