Challenge #7

LIST THREE (or more) THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF. They don’t have to be your favorite things, just things that you think are good. Feel free to expand as much or as little as you want.

Thanks! I hate it!

Okay, if this were like five years ago I literally would not be able to do this. But you know what? I'm turning 40 this year and I am pretty fucking great. Other people might not see that, but who cares because I know it as a truth.

So. First thing: I am great at writing banter. I love that I am great at writing banter. Short, long, whatever. Look at this shit: [link to GYWO comment], [link to another GYWO comment] [realizing no one can see those links if they're not also doing GYWO]

These are both from a Beauty and the Beast retelling, except more like superhero and the supervillain. First one, which is all banter:

  • "You're really mean, you know that?" he said, a smirk at the corner of his mouth and not sounding too put out by it.

She was, though. She was very put out by it and scowled down at his foot, checking if the bleeding had stopped.

"You got yourself all fucked up just to get me chocolate chips," she said, somewhere between pissed and incredulous

"Half of that wasn't exactly planned so I don't know why I'm getting blamed for it."

She made a quiet, enraged noise and grabbed the washcloth, dunking it in the water and using it to clean the bottom of his foot. The hole didn't look too bad, but walking was going to suck for a while. She picked up antibacterial ointment and smeared it over the hole then bandaged it up.

"I don't need you to get me things if you're going to get hurt doing it," she said, strangely guilt-ridden over the whole thing.

    "Again, that part wasn't planned."

He hissed when she took the cloth to the jagged wound on his arm, jerking away for a moment but putting has arm back where it had been before she could snap at him.
And the second one, from when Jack finds out that Nix is a superhero. I'm not sure if this counts as banter because it's two lines at the end, but still. They're quality lines:

  • "Because I don't do that anymore! Are you even listening to me?"

He was, just he was listening to everything she wasn't saying. She wasn't giving him reasons. She wasn't making real excuses, she was just- He couldn't let her leave. He couldn't bring himself to make her stay.

He was going to need to blow up the entrance she'd found, bury the tunnels under so many tons of earth no one would be able to get through.

"This is so fucking stupid," she muttered.

    "Get out," he said.

    "What?"

"Get out!" he roared, feeling like the walls were closing in on him, forcing himself to put his back to her and going over to the door, slapping the wall where the emergency release button was hidden. He didn't have to put up with someone calling him stupid in his own home, not anymore. "Go!"

    She glared, not moving.

"If you won't go on your own I'll make you," he snarled.

He stalked over to her, didn't hesitate even though he was trembling with rage. He grabbed her arm and dragged her behind him. When he was certain she had stopped resisting and was following, he let her go like her skin burned him.

He couldn't take her to the easy entrance, of course. She couldn't know about that. So he took her down and by the cells and through the doors to where she had gotten in.

"Have fun getting up that ladder," he said.

"I can fly, asshole," she said, glaring at him so hard he was almost surprised he wasn't being set on fire.

Second thing I like about myself: I'm a fucking amazing knitter. You want it, I can knit it. Cables, lace, whatever.

Mottled green socks, with some shiny threads through out. There is a complex cabled pattern on them that I don't know how to describe. Sorry.
Pattern link (ravelry): Coffee Cantata

A cowl in green yard. It's lace and it looks like columns of wheat stalks. The edges are scalloped.
Pattern link (ravelry): Amber Waves Cowl

Gloves in a sort of pastel-ish green. Complex cabled pattern again. The cable pattern on the wrist splits around another cable pattern on the hand, and is reduced to two small chains going up the index and pinky fingers.
Pattern link (ravelry): Meisi

Mottled forest-green socks! The pattern is lace leaf-like motifs around a seed stitch center. It's supposed to mimic... thistles? Maybe? I'm not sure.
Pattern link (ravelry): Poet Socks

Colorwork mittens in cream and brown. The brown is a bunch of trees with all their branches tangled together. The cuff has a Latvian braid around it.
Pattern link (ravelry): Deep in the Forest Mittens

Third thing: my body is pretty great. It's doing it's best, and even though it's best is sometimes not great, I still love it. I'm reaching the point where I'm not healing from injuries as well, but that's okay too because again, it's doing its best. So, yeah. No pictures or anything for this one.

Those are indeed quality lines of banter!

And wow. You are an amazing knitter. When I clicked on the cut tag, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to tell, not being remotely well versed in the subject, and my jaw dropped. Especially the socks! Everything you make is SO PRETTY. ❤️❤️❤️

And for real, I struggled with this challenge, too! Self-positivity is not my strong suit.
