My Reaction to The Village

I think I might be the only person in the world who absolutely loved The Village. If not the only person, I'm certainly the only person who loved all Shyamalan movies. Quick rundown:

Praying with Anger (1992) and Wide Awake (1998). Okay, so, I haven't seen these, but they're not "typical" Shyamalan movies so I'm going to discount them until I watch them. Plus, Wide Awake wasn't WP'D, so I don't think it even counts.

The Sixth Sense (1999) really impressed me. It was the last (and possibly the only) move where I didn't have the ending figured out 10 minutes into the film. When the end came, I was absolutely floored. Looking back on it, it was obvious. Watching it the second time it was even more obvious. Absolutely loved it.

Unbreakable (2000) was awesome. But, then again, I'm a sucked for any superhero movie (except for Hulk ::screams in rage at the travesty::). This one was particularly enjoyable because the concept was relatively undone and the idea of there being people like that was appealing. Add those two things to the well-crafted tale Shyamalan wrote, and I thought the movie rocked.

Signs (200) wasn't as good as the other two, but I still quite liked it. The idea was intriguing. Pretty obvious that the water had some huge important role in the movie, since it was too odd a trait to give a little girl if it served no purpose. The story itself was good, it just seemed minorly stilted at times. I didn't particularly like Mel Gibson as the father, but Joaquin Phoenix was awesome.

The Village (2004) totally got me over the minor disappointment of Signs. Wow. I mean, I can see why people wouldn't like it. There was a blatant message (sort of) and the monsters weren't real. Definitely not a typical Shyamalan basis or ending. But I liked it! The monsters looked like Skekses and were a bit of a ripoff of the monsters in The 13th Warrior. Pretty good message, a couple made-ya-jump moments, a final twist that most people wouldn't see. Pretty damned good movie.

I just realized that Shyamalan has something with water and the color red.
Water
U - Willis' weakness
S - alien's weakness
V - follow sound of stream to leave and rains in woods.

Red
V - "bad color"
6 - doorknob, balloon, sweater, tent, wife's shawl
U - the poncho of one of the bad guys (I think)

But, yeah….

i LOVED the village. nice to know i'm not the only one, because i get shit from everybody for no taste in movies. but i do because movies are practically my life. i suppose then only the real film fanatics get The Village. i'd never seen anything that blended romance and suspense like that. it was incredible.

i'm nattie, by the way.

:-) Wow, glad to know I'm not the only one.

Movies are pretty much my life, too, so that must be it. :-)

Erm, should I know you from somewhere?
