Is Beauty and the Beast (or could it be) an early study of the psychological state we now call Stockholm Syndrome?

yes. disney was always way ahead on all sorts of psychological things. they used subliminal messages way back when and were never prone to shy away from those types of things.

Beauty and the Beast was around long before the Disney version.
