Harlequin Romance

So. Y'all remember when I posted an email conversation here involving me stealing a guy's wallet at a YahooGroup I belong to? Well, that guy's name was Jose and that YahooGroup was TowerChatter. Now, another member of TC, Helen, is writing a Harlequin Romance about me and Jose. I figured, to amuse y'all, I'd post it here.

Part One

The girl sat by the bar, idly stirring the straw around in her thick chocolate milkshake. She pushed rich brown hair away from her glasses and sighed – world domination could be so frustrating sometimes, especially when Karen kept trying to interfere. And interfere was the word! All she wanted to do was case out HQ when the crew were out destroying evil plushmeisters. Nothing wrong with a little recce trip!

She leaned forward and took a careful sip of her milkshake, careful not to get any of the bright drink over her loose white blouse. She was also careful not to drape the flared sleeves in the drink, either. She crossed one leg over the other as she sat on her stool, the jeans clinging to her. She wanted a taser, and she wanted one bad.

“ Would you like a look at the menu, senorita?” came a smooth voice from in front of her. She looked up…and then remembered to close her mouth.

The bartender was drying a glass with a clean white cloth, leaning insouciantly against the wooden bar. He looked Hispanic – nut-brown skin, dark eyes and darker hair. And now those dark eyes were regarding her with twinkling interest.

“ I want cookies,” she replied bluntly. She was hungry.

The bartender’s heavy eyebrows collided together as he frowned at her brusque ordering – he wasn’t used to being talked to like that. But he nodded obediently.

“ What flavour would you like, senorita?”

“ Chocolate chip,” she replied.

He nodded curtly and put his glass and cloth down, turning around to reach up for a high shelf. The girl used the opportunity to take a peek at his bottom – pert, round, squeezable….and oh, wasn’t that his wallet peeking out of his pocket? She took a quick look around to see if she was being observed. Nobody was paying her any attention. Under normal circumstances this would have been unacceptable, but for now it was perfect. A wicked little smile on her face, she leaned forward over the bar and gently hooked the guy’s wallet out, sitting back demurely on her stool as she slipped the wallet in to her handbag.

The bartender turned back round, a smile once more on his face. He put a small plate in front of her.

“ Here are your cookies, pretty senorita. Why is it that you are alone here?”

“ Oh, that’s easy,” she told him airily. “ The last guy I was with was a complete bastard. I keeled him until he was dead.”

Was it her, or did the bartender’s chocolate skin blanch? She withheld a smile of her own.

“ My name is Jose,” he told her. “ I hope you will come here often, senorita.”

“ No way, Jose!” she grinned, and he rolled his eyes.

“ You’re so clever. How long did it take you to think of that?”

Her eyes narrowed in to a frown. “ I’m full of things like that. You may call me Nire,” she informed him haughtily. “ And you might me able to help me. I’m looking for a strapping young man to come and work for me…”
