Queen of BS?

Okay, maybe not, but I sure put on a jolly good show!!

Mystra1215: Crabs
Mystra1215: I have a major issue.
Mystra1215: Like
Mystra1215: HUGE
Mystra1215: Major.
nikematchcage: ...
nikematchcage: explain!
Mystra1215: :'( I have "Hickory Dickory Dock" stuck in my head.
nikematchcage: oh, are you referring to the following song?
nikematchcage: *clears throat*
nikematchcage: "hickory dickory dock
nikematchcage: the mouse ran up the clock
nikematchcage: the clock struck one
nikematchcage: the mouse ran down (or something like that)
Mystra1215: YES!!!
nikematchcage: hickory dickory dock?"
nikematchcage: oh, i see.
nikematchcage: well, perhaps it will come out of your head if you told me what a "hickory dickory dock" is and how it relates to mice and clocks.
Mystra1215: Well.
Mystra1215: They're speaking of grandfather clocks.
Mystra1215: And back when the song was written
Mystra1215: Those clocks were usually made out of hickory.
Mystra1215: The mouse would "dock" the clock, much as a boat docks in the harbor.,'
Mystra1215: So they needed a transition word between hickory (to descrive the clock) and dock (what the mouse was about to do).
Mystra1215: Along came good old dickory.
Mystra1215: From "to dick around"
nikematchcage: nire, if that's bullshit, that's commendably done.
Mystra1215: Meaning the mouse fooled about for a bit before he docked the clock.
nikematchcage: HAHAHAHAHA.
nikematchcage: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Mystra1215: Of COURSE it's bullshit.
Mystra1215: :-)
nikematchcage: i really must give you the most heartfelt congratulations.
Mystra1215: Why thank you!!
nikematchcage: that was masterful.
Mystra1215: I do my best. ;-)

i am good

as soon as you started that, i was like thats BS...:

Mystra1215: And back when the song was written
Mystra1215: Those clocks were usually made out of hickory.

In fact most clocks were made of oak. Other common woods were apple, laurel, and cherry.

It just got worse from there. :-P

I must admit though, if I didn't know you (or know that you were from mamas) i would have believed it :-D.

But you must admit, hickory is a wood!

I posted it to my other journal and a whole bunch of people that know me believed it and were like, "Ohmigods really? That's so cool!!"

They clearly don't know me too well... :-P

The question is: How MUCH of it is bullshit?

I remember when you told me that blackbirds rhyme was a way of getting people to be pirates. THen I foudn out it was true and was like HOLY SHIT!

Depressing.

STORY TIME!

My teacher told us that somebody asked her what knitting their brow meant, and she said it was back from when people where taking wagons across country, the men had to be up front with the cattle so the women were steering, and they had to watch the kids in the back, so they had a lot to do. And so they would stick knitting needles above their eyes and move their eyebrows up and down to knit.

And the kid believed her.

And Jon Hersey believed her when she said that the grapes the greeks wore on their heads helped them hear because the sound bounced off each grape.
