Interview Answers
Hello, denizens of the internet! In my ongoing quest to clear out my inbox, here are some interview answers. These are not at all in chronological order. Sorry. :(
bofoddity asked me questions here.
1. Who is your most favorite character of all time?
What is that? You want me to natter on about Aeryn Sun for a while? WHY THANK YOU!
(This question was actually hard, because I have a bunch of characters who I love with all my heart. Such as one ♥Matthew Michael Murdock♥ or perhaps a Mr. ♥Wade Wilson♥. But in the end, I decided to go with the character who I have consistently *______*d over since the moment I was first introduced to her.)
SO. How fucking much do I love Aeryn? SO FUCKING MUCH. SO MUCH, INTERNET, LET ME TELL YOU. I am consistently totally in fucking love with her. I consistently want to be her when I grow up. (I also consistently remember that is probably a bad idea because she is not the most well-adjusted person in the world but what the fuck ever I love her and her well-adjusted-ness (or lack thereof) is not what I aspire to be like, but I will talk about that later). AND, I WILL NOT LIE TO YOU FLIST, I ALSO KIND OF WANT TO SLEEP WITH HER.
I completely fell in love with her in the very first episode. I mean, the first thing she did was lay Crichton out, and pin him down with her thighs. There is nothing I love more in this world than women beating up men. I am trying to keep this focused on how awesome Aeryn is and not how awesome Farscape in general is, so I don't really have more to say about that. In that instance, I knew that I was going to fucking love her forever.
The scene that totally catapulted me from a normal level of love to a SORT OF OBSESSIVE incredibly strong and persistent sort of love was in "Thank God It's Friday... Again." After she saves Rygel, she's talking to John, and says "Difficult? I had to stop him from blowing himself up into bits. I had to figure out what was causing the problem and I had to FIX it!" and John is kind of dismissive because, let's face it, John can be a dick, and so Aeryn says:
I guess that's what I love so much about Aeryn. She's consistently growing throughout the series. When something sets her back ("Infinite Possibilities: Icarus Abides") and she starts thinking that this whole... this whole growing and improving as a person thing isn't worth it, that setback is never permanent. Even when it seemed like everything in the universe was conspiring against her, she basically gave them the finger and told them she wasn't going to let them run her life.
Those two things are what I admire most about her, and when I saw "I want to be like Aeryn Sun," that is what I'm talking about. She's willing to say "This way I am living kind of sucks, and I'm going to do something to change that," even if it's a subconscious decision. She's excited about learning new things. And even when everything seems impossible and not worth it, even when everyone she's come to love is dying, she still says fuck you to the world and keeps going.
I could keep going, but I am running out of steam, and I still have nine questions to go. :(
2. What is the best take on the vampire mythos and why?
Oh christ, I have read so many takes on the vampire mythos that I've basically hit the point where I think they're all fucking stupid. When I was a teenie, I was in love LKH's take. When I was younger than that, I was all swoony over Dracula. But now?
Now I think I like Nosferatu best. Like, fuck you, it's a fucking living corpse. That is not sexy. But this opinion is based purely on my level of being sick to death of vampires, as opposed to actual thought and analysis. A lot of people like Robin McKinley's take in Sunshine, but to be honest, that left me kind of unsatisfied.
Also, you know what? I kind of like Twilight's take. Not because it's actually a good take, but because it took fucking balls (or, uh, fucking stupidity) to go "WELL. I am going to take EVERYTHING IN THE VAMPIRE MYTHOS and go FUCK THAT SHIT AND CHANGE IT TO SOMETHING EVEN STUPIDER."
3. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
This one has a variety of answers going from "lol are you fucking kidding me?" to "actually a reasonable goal." I KNOW, REASONABLE GOALS ARE NOT THE POINT OF THIS QUESTION. WHATEVER.
If I could have any job in the world, I would be independently wealthy and have no job. I would homestead, be as off the grid as possible (because fuck if I'm giving up my internet), have a couple of kids and a wife, and live in the middle of nowhere in New England. My "job" (I am putting this in quotes because I would not get paid for doing any of this and I get the feeling this question is more talking about paid jobs, but that doesn't mean that I don't believe that these things are fulltime jobs) would be farming, taking care of the kids, and do whatever home improvement projects I've taken on. And I would write shitty urban fantasy/superhero/paranormal romance books in my spare time (LOOK I DO NOT KNOW WHERE THE SPARE TIME WOULD COME FROM BUT IT WOULD BE THERE).
But! This is sort of ridiculous. Slightly less ridiculous: writer for Marvel! Specifically, working mainly on Daredevil. OH MY I HAVE SO MANY GREAT IDEAS THAT WOULD BE GEN IF I WROTE FIC ABOUT THEM. But, again, lol never going to happen. In order to become a writer at Marvel, you basically have to intern there for no pay. That's not something I can afford.
Slightly less ridiculous than that: an assistant literary agent! MAN I WOULD BASICALLY GET TO READ ALL DAY. In my idealized conception of this job, it is totally awesome and fun. Sadly, it probably sucks as a real job. Plus, I am neither an English major nor willing to live near a big city. I gather these two things are sort of required.
I HAVE DECIDED TO MOVE ON AND NOT TALK ABOUT MY REASONABLE GOAL.
4. What is the crackiest thing you've ever run into in fandom?
You know, I've read so much SGA fic that nothing really strikes me as cracky anymore. I mean, even that skullfucking fic is just like "Eh, whatever" now. Sorry. :(
5. What is your favorite holiday?
MAN HOW MUCH DO I LOVE THE ENTIRE CHRISTMAS SEASON? SO MUCH! I love everything about it. I love Christmas carols and Christmas lights and Christmas trees and giving people presents and getting presents and how my family pretends to be normal and all the Rankin/Bass Christmas movies and just *______________*.
kate asked me questions here.
1. SO TELL ME WHAT PAIRINGS YOU READ SEXYTIEMS FOR AND WHAT PAIRINGS YOU DON'T AND WHY. All these hints from Wee just make me all confused.
Oh man I AM ANSWERING THESE QUESTIONS A BIT LATE. :( I do not have a hard and fast rule about what I will read sexytiems for and what I don't, unfortunately. And my mind changes frequently and I contradict myself a lot. In general, I skim all sex scenes, though. If, in my skimming, I realize that they contain important plot development/character information, I'll go back and read them.
So, yeah.
2. Pig farm? Seriously?
Alas, no. :( I don't think we even have any pig farms near here.
3. Which smell is better: pre-snow or post-rain?
Oh man, I fucking love the way the air gets sharp and metallic before it's going to snow. That smell is pretty much my most favorite smell in the world.
4. What is the picture in your icon? (Pretty sure you've told me before but I can't remember.)
It's the doubtful guest, from Edward Gorey's book "The Doubtful Guest". I fucking love Gorey's art.
5. What do you want for your birthday?
For you to continue being a totally awesome friend! Which I got! BEST PRESENT EVER. Also, the Whole Foods gift card and the visit from wee was pretty fucking awesome. :DDDDDDDDDDD YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST FRIENDS. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Okay, I will answer more later.

What I had to do up there was like a field strategy exercise. Only the enemy wasn't trying to kill me. The enemy was a puzzle and there were lots of different pieces and independently, separately, they didn't - they didn't make any sense. And I had to think it through really hard. And I had to work out. Try different combinations of putting things together. And then finally I worked out what had happened and I worked out what I had to do.And she's just so fucking proud that she triumphed over SCIENCE! and was good for something beyond shooting shit. And not even just that she was good for something beyond shooting shit, she was starting to realize that there Was something beyond shooting shit.
I guess that's what I love so much about Aeryn. She's consistently growing throughout the series. This is my dream job too. WHY ARE YOU SO FAR AWAY FROM REALM OF POSSIBILITY, DREAM JOB? ;___;
Sometimes I wonder if it's possible to do something fresh with the vampires anymore, but the tru fax is that 1) no, it's not 2) lulzy takes are better anyway. Though I guess I have a tiny soft spot for the original Dracula.
Aeryn is just awesome. Stating it enough isn't possible!

Also, Aeryn's disdainful "This girl is slow." was fucking hilarious and I love her so much. *___________*
