Sometimes it's a wonder I don't set myself on fire regularly.
Well internet! This morning was fun!
I wrote a couple papers, set my mouse aside, and turned on the printer to print them. And the dreaded cups-insecure-filter came up! So I moved the USB connector to a different port, in hopes it was just the port being weird. Alas! It was not! I tried deleting the printer and then adding it again, except when I went to add it, there was no printer to be found.
In the past, this has happened because the drivers got corrupted/fucked up, and since I'd recently installed a new printer I figured I mucked something up there (god damn you handwriting meme!). So I removed the USB connector from my computer, uninstalled the drivers, downloaded them, and went to reinstall them.
Of course, because Canon hasn't updated its drivers since 1993, it refused to install because the dependencies listed libcupsys2, which had been replaced by libcups2 recently. No problem! I can just install the dummy package! Except... no... because a bunch of its dependencies weren't met. And I didn't want to fuck around adding more useless shit to my system.
But hey, no biggie! I can just depackage the .debs, change the libcupsys2 to libcups2, repackage them, and reinstall! EASY PEASY. So I do that, and go to add the printer. Whoops! Forgot to plug it in. I lean forward to get the USB cord, except it's not on the table. No problem, the dog probably knocked it off when he was tearing around the room, I just need to get up and grab it. Except... there isn't a USB cord connected to the printer... at all...
THEN INTERNET. THEN I FLASHED BACK TO LAST WEEK. WHEN I WAS DOING THE HANDWRITING MEME. I couldn't find my Dell printer/scanner's cord, so I took the one off my Canon and used that. And then I never put it back.
And the USB connector I had been fiddling with earlier was the one for my mouse.
I had never plugged the fucking printer in.

I am laughing at you because I have laughed at myself for doing something very, very similar. Except in my case it wasn't printer issues, it was mouse issues. I thought I was having glitches with Google Chrome, then with FF, I defragged and rebooted but I was still having wonky mouse issues. Then I unplugged the wireless mouse and used the track pad. Problem solved. The mouse was over three years old and on its last leg.

That handwriting meme was fucking toxic, man. I haven't written a thing since you told me that mine looks like kindergartener's. YOU ARE SO CRUEL.
