INTERNET. THIS EPISODE. WAS QUIT POSSIBLY LITERALLY THE BEST EPISODE OF LOST EVER. OH MY FUCKING GOD. WHERE DO I EVEN START.

Discovering: I am still massively overinvested in Desmond/Penny. At the end there where they agree to go out for coffee I actually started crying a little out of joy. And a bit before that where he was first at the stadium I was literally squeaking with joy. I AM JUST SO OVERINVESTED IN THEM YOU GUYS I SWEAR TO GOD IF THEY DON'T GET A HAPPY ENDING IN BOTH UNIVERSES I'M GOING TO MURDER SOMEONE.

But also, sideways Desmond is so sad. :( His face when Widmore was like "lol lucky you no family, no commitments" and when the MRI guy asked about his emergency contact. :( DESMOND, I WANT PENNY TO HUG YOU A LOT.

And, uh, apparently, I can not handle Desmond losing his shit, because when he started screaming for them to let him out in the room right before they turned the things on, I nearly burst into tears and just sat there staring at the screen in horror because it was so upsetting. BE NICE TO DESMOND PEOPLE, GOD. SERIOUSLY, THIS EPISODE WAS KIND OF UPSETTING A LOT OF THE TIME, AND REALLY UPSETTING SOME OF THE TIME.

Also, sideways!Desmond working for Widmore was even more brain breaking than sideways!Hurley having good luck. That raised the bar on WTF moments a whole hell of a lot.

ALSO, ELOISE!!!!!! ELOISE!!!!! ELOISE YOU ARE LIKE A GOD. YOU KNOW ALL AND YOU SEE ALL AND I LOVE YOU SO FUCKING MUCH OH MY GOD. HOW DID SHE KNOW???? HOW DOES SHE KNOW THE THINGS SHE KNOWS???? WTF???

Okay, but internet, let's talk about two horrifying things. Number one, oh Desmond. :( Remember, you got free of the island? You already made sacrifices for it, and you got free, and now you're back and you're reading to do what you need to do for it? You were free, you had a good life. :( And, relatedly, when Sayid was like ":| Let's go :|" and Desmond was all "Sure thing brotha." there's just a long string of horrified NOs in my chatlog. Internet, I am not going to be able to fucking handle it if Desmond ends up on Esau's team. I will fucking break, I am not even kidding.

And the second horrifying thing: D: You guys, I am pretty sure that the sideways universe is breaking. D: And that's why they're starting to get flashes of their other life. I am kind of really fucking worried that the two universes are colliding, and they're going to merge, and the sideways universe will basically be destroyed. And I don't know what will be worse, if the sideways universe is destroyed or if the proper universe is destroyed. Because, I mean, on the one hand, pretty much everyone is happier in the sideways universe (I AM GOING TO COUNT DESMOND AS HAPPIER NOW THAT HE HAS MET PENNY). On the other hand, everyone who is still alive in the proper universe has gone through so fucking much that they fucking well deserve to survive and be happy at the end of the show.

BUT HEY, NOW WE KNOW WHAT "SEE YOU IN ANOTHER LIFE, BROTHA" MEANS. :DDDDDDDDD

I think I need to just sit quietly for a while now and digest this episode because it was so full of awesome and wonderful things and horrible things and I am sure I will have more to say about it eventually. Seriously, every Wednesday, SK and I spend the entire episode flailing at each other, and then when it's over, we just sit there for a while all silent and "..." as we ~digest~.

(Also, I like that, in every other episode, if it didn't have Ben in it, I was all ho hum about it. But apparently as long as I've got ♥Desmond & Penny♥ I am okay with the lack of ♥Ben♥. I am starting to have doubts about who I am more overinvested in, Desmond and Penny or Ben. And, to be honest, I think I'm more overinvested in Desmond and Penny, purely because it is a lot less likely that Lost is going to break my heart with regard to them. I mean, let's be honest. Things are not looking good for Ben, so I do not have high hopes, so I am trying hard to be less overinvested in him so I am not crushed in the finale.)

(Also, finally, the display on the MRI machine when they pan up to it says "E1     A37 215     C .46" I refuse to believe that they chose to pan up to that for no reason. WHAT DO YOU THINK IT MEANS INTERNET BECAUSE I AM BAD AT REMEMBERING THINGS LIKE "NUMBER SEQUENCES" UNLESS THEY ARE THE NUMBERS. lol can remember the numbers, but not important information for school. :( )

Black Snake

slides like rain
over the rough stones of the chimney and into an opening
I swear is no wider
than the eye of my wedding ring.

And I understand Persephone at a standstill, just before
she swallows the single seed
on her complicit tongue—
                                                          and Orpheus, as he
turns and stares into the retreating pour of dark mist.

I have seen a black snake loop from an oak limb,
as cursive in the air
as a Chinese acrobat.

I’ve watched one meditate in the shade of the blue mist bush,
the thick lump in its long throat
slowly shrinking.

And in a corner of the summer attic, I’ve held in my hands
a snakeskin, torn at both ends,
rumpled at the head where it split and the snake
tugged free.
                       What is a snake,
that it casts off such transparent trappings? What is

this skin, in which
I find a nature that’s empty, not unlike my own?

2.

Were I a loose swirl—a black water ripple—one continuous, long
throat,
            what would be
the song I’ d inscribe on stone, on ground, on grass?

No beginning to it, no end, snake comes through winter,
its tail in its mouth—
                                    and a coil of song
issues from the deepest trance of its body.

I am not what I was in the cold, in the dark.
Neither the joy
                           before grief, nor the joy after.

Only the inflected
spark at the base of the spine.

Half-conscious spark. Indifferent spasm.

The spill of night into flesh gone nameless,
sliding and flowing
into nothing as real as this pounding of the heart.

Personally, I don’t think that’s going to happen. Widmore did refer to Desmond as “the package” in a previous episode, so I think the plan was to deliver Desmond to Esau, and then Desmond can start FUCKING SHIT UP. :D

I swear to god, that had better happen, or else I will break. AND HOW GREAT WERE THE PENNY BITS. OH MY GOD BE STILL, MY HEART. ♥♥♥♥♥♥PENNY♥♥♥♥♥♥
